Get ready for one of the most anticipated sailing festivals on the Solway coast: Kippford Week 2025! Running Saturday 9th August through to Thursday 14th August, the RNLI Regatta will kick things off. This is an experience you won’t want to miss!
What Is Kippford Week?
Hosted by the Solway Yacht Club, Kippford Week is an open sailing series welcoming dinghies, multihulls, keelboats and cruisers. Whether you’re racing competitively or simply soaking in the scene, it’s a family‑friendly celebration of the sea, attracting sailors and spectators from across Scotland, England and beyond.
What to Expect During the Week
There is a whole host of activities to enjoy during Kippford week. Six exciting days of racing will include intense competition and camaraderie both on and off the water. The races will be followed by wholesome social evenings where sailors and visitors can gather. There will also be the chance to witness the RNLI Regatta, where heroes of the Solway lifeboat station take to the water in spirited competition.
The sailing area is a scenic estuary leading into the Solway Firth. Smaller boats taking part in the races usually make the most of the more sheltered area from where the river begins to open out to the fringes of the Solway Firth. The estuary gives competitors the experience of sea sailing while being sheltered from the stronger winds and rougher seas. Cruisers normally start inside the estuary and venture out into the Solway where Hestan Island is often treat as a mark of the course. Tides and currents add to the mix too so you’ll be in for some intense racing action!
The large clubhouse is situated on Kippford front and is in an elevated position with views over to Glen Isle and beyond. It is the venue for most of the club-organised social life of the week however you will also find get-togethers at the local pubs.
