Holiday destination of the year!
Wondering where to go on holiday this year?
BBC Countryfile Magazine readers have just voted resoundingly for Dumfries and Galloway as winner of Holiday Destination of the Year due to its plentiful charms – tranquil forests, astonishing wildlife, wonderful beaches, lochs and streams, plus the UK’s original Dark Sky Park.
Expert Dixe Wills described Dumfries and Galloway as “an overlooked corner whose time has come”. And how right he was.
The region was the only Scottish location nominated in the annual awards. It was up against Suffolk in England; Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire, both in Wales; and the Causeway Coast and Glens, Northern Ireland.
There is something for everyone in the local area including beautiful coastal and forest walks, golf, cycling, fishing, sailing, beautiful castles and gardens, wildlife attractions, family days out and fascinating museums covering aviation, the war effort and Robert Burns… to name just a few. We have lovely small towns – Castle Douglas The Food Town, Kirkcudbright The Artists’ Town, Wigtown The Book Town and Moffat – a charming town & frequent winner of the Scotland in Bloom Award.
If you’ve yet to discover the region for the first time why not book now and you’ll be welcomed with open arms. We also have a number of holiday homes for sale if you feel the time is right to treat yourself to that dream holiday home.
